Michael Jackson's first concert in Spain was in Marbella

Michael Jackon’s very first appearance in Spain was in Marbella. The king of pop started his Bad Tour in Spain on August 5, 1988, at the Estadio Municipal de Marbella soccer stadium. Two days later in Madrid and four days later in Barcelona before he left to France.

Michael Jackson stayed at the Los Monteros Hotel across Hospital Costa del Sol east of Marbella. He checked in on August the third. He arrived early in the morning surrounded by an impressive amount of bodyguards.

Michael Jackson had bizarre wishes. The king of pop wanted a dance floor in his luxury hotel room and the plants had to be replaced with plastic plants because he was concerned about the oxygen level in his room. He had a team of 150 people consisting of chefs, hairdressers, tailors as well as a complete medical team.

Bad (Tour) Marbella

In the afternoon there was already a kilometer long line in front of the entrance of the soccer stadium. The fans had to wait until 10 o’clock in the evening. During the smashing hit ‘Beat It’ the king let himself fly over the fans with a crane.

Michael Jackson performed for more than 28,000 fans on August 5, 1988, at the Estadio Municipal de Marbella.
